Phishing is a fraudulent attempt to gather sensitive information about you or your account. MIDTEL NET will never ask you for sensitive information in email, including your password, social security number and/or credit card number.

Phishing attempts are getting more frequent and sophisticated, and they are affecting everyone on the internet. Phishers hope that a few customers will reply with their email account and password so they can use that account to send out thousands of spams, or unsolicited bulk messages.

If this happens, the compromised account will be disabled and the password will be changed. This is to prevent MIDTEL NET's network and mail servers from being blocked by providers like Hotmail, Yahoo, Roadrunner and AOL.

What can we all do?

1. Please remember that no reputable company will ever ask you for sensitive information in email, including your password, social security number and credit card number. And you should never provide that information in email.


2. Make a habit of looking carefully at the message. Is it sent to you personally? Is it coming from MIDTEL NET (the actual From address, not just the subject line)?


3. Take a moment to review Phishing information on some of the major websites. Microsoft and Wikipedia are included here:
