Crystalline glazes are our new glaze option. They are actually zinc crystals that grow and float in the glaze as the glaze cools slowly in the kiln. The glaze is fired to 2200*F then cooled to around 2000*F and held for 6 hours.
This technique was popular at the turn of the last century in French and American Art Pottery.
Over the past year we have been experimenting with firing and glazing techniques and can now achieve consistent results. We are currently working with four colors - White, tan, green and blue. The colors remain fairly constant. The crystal formations and patterns vary from piece to piece.
• Our basins are hand-made on the potters wheel.
• All clay and glazes are highfired and very durable.
• Since each piece is made to order we can easily customize dimensions.
Crackle Glaze
Crackle is an ancient Chinese glaze technique. The naturally occuring crazes are inked to accentuate the mosiac like pattern. Special care needs to be taken when cleaning these sinks, we recommend no bleach products.
