 A Palladian
house has wide boards used as siding meant to look like stone originally in England. The
doorway and the windows over the door were called Palladian. The projections under the
eaves are called modillions. Modillions are a block or a bracket simply used in modern
styles. There are many panes in the windows because glass was hard to make in large sizes.
There are many details like the paneled door is a door that
has squares. Quoins are a corner of the house that has brick-like designs. There are two
chimneys on each side of the house.
The style came from the Italian Renaissance. The
time period of this style is from 1700-1780 locally to ca. 1830. It was built at the time
of the reign of King George. They chose this kind of architecture because an increasingly
prosperous population began to seek fashionable buildings. |
