palladianwindow.gif (27439 bytes)returns.gif (12502 bytes)A Palladian house has wide boards used as siding meant to look like stone originally in England. The doorway and the windows over the door were called Palladian. The projections under the eaves are called modillions. Modillions are a block or a bracket simply used in modern styles. There are many panes in the windows because glass was hard to make in large sizes.

They chose this kind of architecture because an increasingly prosperous population began to seek fashionable buildings.
