A Shingle house has wood roofing and is two or three stories high. About 20% of shingled houses have side gable roofs. Five principal subtypes can be distinguished.

Gable's A triangle formed by the meeting of a double pitched or gable roof, a two way pitcher. A hipped roof has no gables but four pitched side. Towers are buldings or parts of buldings that are especilly tall. Palladian windows are composed of three sections. A multi-level eave is the lower edge of sloping roofs. A pitch is the slant of a roof. Classical refers, for our purpose, to two ancienct pouches fifth cenury B. C. Greece to second centuryy a.d.

The style came from Rome, Newport, Cape Cod, and Long Island. It was popular from 1880-1900.
