.....all about SAPBUSH
HOLLOW
The band has been around in one
form or another for quite a few years, forming originally to play
a "mostly jazz festival" for
"free hotdogs and five dollars" The first members were Jane Rogers
(playing mandolin!),
John Rogers, and Oliver
McGiver. Mandolinist Foster Greene heard the group and allowed as
he'd like to get involved,
prompting Jane to devote full
time to her true calling, the banjo, for which we are all thankfull
(altho she still plays a mean
mando on occasion).
Henry Lamont was guitarist extraordinare for the group for a number of
years before leaving
to devote more time to his
family. Other fine area pickers who have filled in or guested over the
years include
Sean MacGloin, Mike Otis,
Barb Piemer, Tom Wadsworth, Duane Morgan, Clemens McGiver, Chuck
Batcher and
many others.
The SAPBUSH HOLLOW set list has changed over the years from mostly
traditional bluegrass and old time music
to a more contemporary sound, influenced by many new and exciting
songwriters. Although we are an acoustic band
we've added Pedal Steel on a few songs to expand our
possibilities. We honor the tradition of the music but like to
think we are moving ahead into the future of bluegrass and
acoustic. And we still love to play old time string band
music and have had some pretty memorable old time dance sets! You had
to be there..........
We'll have some brief bios of Sapbush soon. In the meantime, check out Jane's page.
